Celebrating Super Bowl LV with Jack & Coke! Plus many more Jack Daniel's recipes

Feb 03, 2021

Jack Daniel's and Coca Cola have always been a harmonious marriage of strong whiskey spice plus sweet refreshing bubbly, and we're stocking up for this Sunday's Super Bowl event. Join us for some history on the brand as well as other products and recipes from Jack Daniel's that are sure to thrill!

BRAND FACTS

  • Founded in 1866, Jack Daniel's was the first registered distillery in the USA.
  • Jack first learned to make whiskey in 1863 at the age of 13. It is said that he went to work for a preacher, grocer, and distiller named Dan Call who taught him how to run his distillery.
  • In 2016 (the 150th Anniversary of the distillery), an article by the New York Times was published, delving further into the history of the brand's beginnings. Never a secret, but not talked about much prior, it is realized that one of Dan Call's slaves named Nearest Green was charged with teaching Jack everything he knew about distilling whiskey. • The distillery is located in Lynchburg, TN which is a dry town. Although Prohibition ended in 1933, the town is still dry! The product is not able to be sold at stores or restaurants in the county. However the distillery is able to serve samples and sell bottles on their distillery tours.
  • The mash is a blend of corn, rye, and malted barley and distilled in copper stills. It is then filtered through charcoal which is what originally set Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 apart in quality.
  • New, charred American White Oak barrels are used to age the whiskey, which rests for about 4 years.
  • The iconic square bottle was easier to transport and store. The logo & label were created in 1911, the year of Jack Daniel's passing. Some speculate that the black label honors his death.
  • The first known mention of whiskey and Coca Cola was 1907. The rest is history!

TASTING NOTES - Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
  • Nose: Light with plenty of nutty sweetness, with hints of dry spice and a touch of smoke.
  • Palate: Smooth, soft notes of nutty caramel.
  • Finish: Sweet with toasted oak

JACK & COKE

Jack & Coke is a popular drink for a variety of reasons. Enjoyable for the novice drinker or the whiskey connoisseur alike, it tastes great, is easy to make, is sweet & refreshing, and balances with a variety of foods. We're particularly excited about the fried bar apps we'll be enjoying with it. While it's easy enough to find spinach and artichoke dip or hot wings in the frozen section of your grocery store, we're supporting small businesses this year by patronizing local restaurants for their take out selection.

As far as our favorite Super Bowl cocktail, you may even find premade cocktails in cans at your local liquor store. Continue to look out for events on our social media pages so you can stop in and grab a complimentary sample and swag!

Staff will have proper PPE at tasting events. Please be sure to wear a mask when entering.

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE FLAVORS...

If you like changing it up, Jack Daniel's has some of the best flavored whiskeys around. In taste comparisons, Jack stands out above the rest for balance and quality of flavor (you won't find overly sweet, syrupy, or artificial flavors here). Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire is worth the extra few bucks when comparing other popular firey brands... believe us on this one. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey is ideal with lemonade and Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple is delicious with ginger beer in an Apple Mule.

What is Tequila? Tequila is a distilled spirit and a type of mezcal. The liquor is made from agave plants and produced only in specific parts of Mexico. Depending on where the agave is grown, the taste of tequila can vary by the bottle. Similar to the way whiskey can be broken down into more specific categories like bourbon and scotch, tequila can be broken down as well. There are three main types of tequila—blanco (silver, unaged), reposado (aged for 2 to 9 months in wood barrels), and añejo (aged for a minimum of 1 year in wood barrels).
