GIN-gle all the way! Holiday Gin Suggestions from The Hart Agency

Dec 16, 2019

Your guide to our favorite gins this season, and the best holiday cocktails to make with them!

What's amazing about Gin is it's infused with various botanicals, so every brand is unique in taste. We're here to showcase the differences, and provide a perfect cocktail pairing for your seasonal party.

ST. GEORGE TERROIR

Bursting with pine, we love St. George's Terroir Gin.  American made in a former naval air station, they use California Douglas Fir & Bay Laurel to infuse their gin with an intense & bold flavor.

Perfect for Christmas time, create an amazing Cranberry Punch by adding 1 part Terroir, 2 parts natural cranberry juice, 1/2 part simple syrup, and a squeeze of lemon over ice. Garnish with a few fresh cranberries & a sprig of rosemary to enhance its already piney splendor. At just $33 per bottle, it's great for batching in a punch bowl or serving as you go.

AVIATION

We stand behind the gin that Ryan Reynolds owns!  Aviation is smooth, delicious, and flavorful; you'll find subtle flavors of juniper, coriander, lavender, sarsaparilla, cardamom, anise, and sweet orange peel. Priced at around $26 per bottle, and well balanced in taste, this is one of our go-to's for every weekend or pleasing a crowd.

For your holiday party, we love the simplicity and elegance of their take on a Gimlet with The Southside Cocktail:

2 ounces Aviation Gin
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
6 mint leaves
3/4 ounce simple syrup
Garnish with a lemon peel & serve up in a martini glass

SUNTORY ROKU

We adore this Japanese gin because not only is it infused with eight classic botanicals, they also include 6 "uniquely Japanese" botanicals that result in a soft, round, and floral taste. The beautiful bottle is shaped like a hexagon and includes a raised design of each botanical in ode to the unique six. Those include the Sakura flower, Yuzu peel, Sencha tea, Sansho pepper, Sakura leaf, and Gyokuro tea. In order to get the perfect taste, they harvest each of these during their peak time of ripeness, so it takes a full year to produce. Despite that, Roku prices around $30-35 per bottle.

Roku deserves to shine, so it's the perfect Gin & Tonic. Make it festive with 6 slices of fresh ginger and be sure to go for a quality tonic like Fever Tree.

DRUMSHANBO GUNPOWDER IRISH

This gin is both "slow distilled by hand in medieval copper pots", and vapor infused with a total of 8 botanicals including oriental grapefruit. Their concept is about the innovation of bringing unrelated things together for the first time through the test of curiosity, so appropriately enough their mascot is a Jackalope, a mythological animal that is a mix of a jackrabbit and an antelope.

Taste-wise, you'll note tea, citrus, light pepper - it all comes together in a freshness that is just stunning.  In homage to their theme, our unusual holiday cocktail recommendation is their Curious Jackalope

2 parts Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin
1 part fresh lime juice
1 part fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 part simple syrup

Shake & serve in a rocks glass with an over-sized ice cube. Garnish with mint leaves & a generous slice of deep red grapefruit.

It's refreshing, sophisticated, and different, so why not enjoy at a holiday party? It's around $35 per bottle and stands out on the shelf with its beautiful vibrant blue bottle.

NOLET'S SILVER DRY

Ranked 98 Points by Cigar & Spirits Magazine, this gin is vibrant like none other, likely in part due to its high proof of 92.2. Go for the gold at your soiree with a Nolet Martini, but we recommend using Dolan's Blanc Vermouth de Chambre. Why? The blanc vermouth is "dry like white vermouth but sweet like red vermouth". Use two parts Nolet & one part Dolan's, shake with ice & serve up in a martini glass, then garnish with an orange twist (or lemon twist if you prefer). Since Nolet's is already floral & fruit forward, the blanc vermouth will be the perfect compliment.

Look for the deep emerald green bottle with the striking silver top, priced around $44 per bottle.

HENDRICK'S

What gin list would be complete without Hendrick's? And we're going mad over their Jubilee Punch, which is 1 1/2 parts Hendrick's, 1/3 part Maraschino liqueur, 1/2 part lemon juice, 1/2 part elderflower cordial, and 3 parts apple cidar. Mix in a punch bowl and serve with floating cranberries.

It's perfect to get you in the joyous mood. You'll find it around $38 per bottle and we love the vintage apothecary feel of their dark bottle.

We hope you're inspired with different & new libation options to enjoy at your seasonal celebration! Let us know which is your favorite cocktail in the comments, and be sure to look for Hart Agency on social media for the most up to date posts about events in your area! @hartagency

What is Tequila? Tequila is a distilled spirit and a type of mezcal. The liquor is made from agave plants and produced only in specific parts of Mexico. Depending on where the agave is grown, the taste of tequila can vary by the bottle. Similar to the way whiskey can be broken down into more specific categories like bourbon and scotch, tequila can be broken down as well. There are three main types of tequila—blanco (silver, unaged), reposado (aged for 2 to 9 months in wood barrels), and añejo (aged for a minimum of 1 year in wood barrels).
