The Best Beers for your Superbowl Party, 2020 Edition!

Jan 24, 2020

Why go for the usual brew when you can pair something more unique with your pizza & wings?

There's such a wide array of beers & types that it can feel overwhelming shopping in the grocery or convenience store. Always in the know with new products and popular brands, Hart Agency is here to guide you through some fantastic options for enjoying the game (AND commercials!)....

Sierra Nevada: Limited Edition "40th Hoppy Anniversary"
6.0% ABV

Available in a limited number of stores & bars in New York, this Spring Seasonal Ale is perfect for the hops lover.  This 40th Anniversary edition pays homage to the classic West Coast IPA with bold flavors, in the same style home-brewer (at the time) Ken Grossman created the original. Since it blends the taste of pine with citrus and ends with a slight caramel finish, we think the hops' bitterness is perfect to balance the spice of that buffalo chicken dip your sister-in-law always brings that is instantly devoured by everyone at the party!

Yeungling: America's First Brewery
4.5% ABV

We love the history of the brand, and that it's still family owned and operated. Established in 1829, they've survived through Prohibition and have expanded to meet the demand in the last decade. Their newest, the Golden Pilsner, is a delight you'll want to try. A balance of malt & hop, it's crisp and the best for quenching your thirst. Great with lighter dishes or to balance the creaminess of your spinach and artichoke dip, this is their "interpretation of an outstanding, modern pilsner."

Additionally, at only 140 calories per serving, Yeungling Traditional Lager is our go-to if you're in it for the long haul of watching from the couch for the full four hours. It won't leave you feeling bloated & pairs well with grilled meats, fried food, and spicy food, so it checks every box for your Football viewing enjoyment! The taste is well-balanced with a subtle sweetness that is delightful with food.

Hoegaarden White: Original Belgian Wheated Beer
4.9% ABV

This recipe was inspired by the Monks of Hoegaarden: they explored blending botanicals with traditional wheat beer. Citrus balances with coriander, bringing about a complexity that pairs with a variety of foods. Nice with a cheesy crab dip, spring rolls with sweet & sour sauce, cocktail meatballs, and wings (go for the teryaki, lemon pepper, Parmesan garlic, Thai curry, or zesty Asian sauces). We love the versatility this Belgian Beer provides for your game day banquet. Remember to pronounce like the village it's named after: who-garden!

So good, why stop there? Hoegaarden is a great option for Beer Cheese Dip, so you can drink and eat and dip and drink....  Heat up some SuperPretzel Super Soft  Bites, or make your own fresh with Pillsbury's own recipe.

Hoegaarden Beer Cheese Dip:

tbsp unsalted butter
tbsp flour
tsp garlic powder
tsp dried parsley
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
cup Hoegaarden (or other lager)
oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Create a roux by adding butter and flour to a pot and whisking over medium heat. Add the four spices and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly stir in Hoegaarden until it is the consistency similar to a gravy. You can always add a bit more beer if it seems too thick. Add cheese and stir until melted. Enjoy!

Blue Point: Blueberry Ale
4.5 % ABV

We love Blue Point because it comes to you direct from our backyard, Long Island! They carry a variety of beers you can enjoy all year round, as well as some seasonal options. We really have a hard time deciding on our favorite, but for Super Bowl Sunday we're feeling their Blueberry Ale. Not like your typical fruit-forward beer, the Blueberry Ale is crisp, balanced, and refreshing. Perfect to balance any heavy or salty party foods.

Plus! Take it from the people who know Sangria is not just a summertime drink - Blue Point makes a fantastic Blueberry Beer Sangria to beat the winter blues!

1 cup Blueberry Juice
2 ounces Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
2 ounces Simple Syrup
4 ounces Brandy or Pisco
24 ounces Blue Point Blueberry Ale

Stir ingredients into a pitcher, add Lemon wheel for garnish, along with fresh or frozen blueberries and a bit of basil. Add ice & enjoy!

Corona Premier
4.0% ABV

Looking to mix it up as far as light beers go? Corona Premier is a premium, low carb, light option that has a crisp, smooth taste. Noted as Corona's "Most Drinkable" cerveza, it's only 90 calories so you can load up on chips & guac & salsa & tacos & why limit yourself to just Mexican food if you're drinking a Mexican beer?! Burgers & wings & pizza... the list goes on! Corona Premier's refreshing & refined, so you can drink it with any component of your Super Bowl feast.

Heineken 0.0
0.0% ABV

We'll set the scenario: you enjoy the taste of beer but not interested in the alcohol. You (or a friend) are proudly recovered. You're the designated driver for the night. You want the ritual of drinking without the hangover. So many reasons to list.... Now you can hang with the best of them with Heineken 0.0; their new non-alcoholic beer.

They start with natural beer ingredients, brew & ferment with their "unique A-yeast", then gently remove the alcohol which is then blended to give it a fruity and subtle malt taste. Perfect for your game day sliders & apps without the Monday morning headache!

What is Tequila? Tequila is a distilled spirit and a type of mezcal. The liquor is made from agave plants and produced only in specific parts of Mexico. Depending on where the agave is grown, the taste of tequila can vary by the bottle. Similar to the way whiskey can be broken down into more specific categories like bourbon and scotch, tequila can be broken down as well. There are three main types of tequila—blanco (silver, unaged), reposado (aged for 2 to 9 months in wood barrels), and añejo (aged for a minimum of 1 year in wood barrels).
